About CBHunCC
CBHunCC began in October 2013 in response to the absence of any local way for writers and illustrators of children's books to swap ideas and encourage each other on the road to publication. For those living on the Central Coast of NSW and in the Hunter travelling to industry events in Sydney requires a significant commitment, especially since so many of them are held at night or at places tricky to get to by public transport.
Communication between members is through a private Yahoo group. Each week the moderator of the group sends out Monday Gleanings, a newsletter containing professional development material relevant to writers and illustrators. Past issues have looked at topics like press releases, book trailers, crowdfunding, portfolio preparation, competitions/exhibitions to enter. The Yahoo group also welcomes input from members eg news of book launches, reports on works in progress, requests for feedback on query letters, first chapters, portfolio websites etc, and anything else worthy of celebration or commiseration.
Our members are at all stages in their careers. Some are just starting out, some are completing Natural History Illustration degrees at Newcastle Uni or Graphic Design courses at TAFE, some are self published, some have several children's books to their credit, we even have librarians who specialise in children's books. Those interested in non-fiction are just as welcome as those interested in fiction.
